He couldn’t breathe. The OR was closing in, and something was pressing against his body, suffocating him, smothering him when there was plenty of air. This wasn’t right, he shouldn’t be claustrophobic in such a big room, but he couldn’t breathe, dammit!

“Trapper,” and despite how shaky he felt, Hawkeye’s voice came out normally, “I’m taking a break after this one.”

Over Frank’s immediate whine of “Colonel!”, Trapper met Hawkeye’s eyes, warm concern framed by white.

“Bumming out on me?” Trapper teased, blink-and-you-miss-it worry in his voice.

“Nah, can’t leave you alone with Fumblefingers that long,” Hawkeye joked back, and this time, Margaret was the one to complain. “Just need some air.” He knew Trapper would bug him about it later, but he’d deal with it then.

Five minutes later, Hawkeye was closing and fighting to keep himself from hyperventilating. Last thing he needed was to get too lightheaded to stand. He’d be fine as soon as he got outside.

Open air helped, but not by much, and it took longer than he wanted to admit to get himself under control. Once Hawkeye thought he could handle the enclosed space again, he ducked into the office. He’d seen Radar use the phone a thousand and one times; he could manage a single phone call.

“Sparky, this is Captain Pierce, 4077 MASH. I need you to get me Sidney Freedman, Seoul HQ.”
