WHAT

My main journal, [info]hawkeyecat, is friends-locked. Because I write daily, it makes more sense to keep my fic logged in a separate journal. Most of this is fanfiction, but some may be original fiction. Most of what I write is slash, but there may be het pairings, as well. I tend to label everything in the headers, so if it's not your cup of tea, you'll know in advance.

Any and all comments are welcome, and constructive criticism is highly encouraged. Flames will be used to make toast, and trolls will be banned--see here. If you like what you see, feel free to friend this journal.

Memories and tags are kept up-to-date, and interesting links, such as to my visible tags and various tables, can be found in the right column of my journal pages.

ON WRITING

"No, I don't think that [style is the most important part]. Style is simply, as I say, the man. Style is you—is yourself. You might say that 'yourself' might be the most important part of your fiction, and therefore your statement would become true." - Louis Auchincloss in an interview by Stephen M. Murphy for Their Word Is Law.

"No, no, no—they [my stories] have to satisfy me and if they do that, that's all. I don't really care very much if they sell or not sell if I've got the thing right; if it's right, then I'm very pleased, I like it." - Auchincloss

"You know it [when you've got a story right]. You see it there. It's as if you'd finished a great statue. You look at it and there it is. It's right. And that gives a great feeling of satisfation. And it's fairly rare. I don't often have that feeling that I've gotten it just right." - Auchincloss

"Deliver me from writers who say the way they live doesn't matter. I'm not sure a bad person can write a good book. If art doesn't make us better, then what on earth is it for?" - Alice Walker

"Everywhere I go I'm asked if I think the universities stifles writers. My opinion is that they don't stifle enough of them. There's many a best-seller that could have been prevented by a good teacher." - Flannery O'Connor

"Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don't feel I should be doing something else." - Gloria Steinem

"Good things, when short, are twice as good." - Gracian

"Women do not always have to write about women, or gay men about gay men. Indeed, something good and new might happen if they did not." - Kathryn Hughes

"Yes there is a meaning; at least for me, there is one thing that matters - to set a chime of words tinkling in the minds of a few fastidious people." - Logan Pearsall Smith

"There are some books that refuse to be written. They stand their ground year after year and will not be persuaded. It isn't because the book is not there and worth being written—it is only because the right form of the story does not present itself. There is only one right form for a story and if you fail to find that form the story will not tell itself." - Samuel Clemens

"A ream of fresh paper lies on my desk waiting for the next book. I am a writer and I take up my pen to write." - Pearl S. Buck

"Fiction is the truth inside the lie." - Stephen King

"Be a sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them—in order that the reader may see what they are made of." - Kurt Vonnegut

DISCLAIMER

I do not own any of the fandoms I write in, be they television shows, books, or movies. I make no money off my fanfiction, simply gain experience and skill for original fiction. No disrespect is intended toward the owners and/or creators, not to mention largely brilliant writers and actors, via my work. Should I ever write Real Person Fiction (RPF), a specific disclaimer will be applied to those.

All writing in this journal is technically my property (unless cited otherwise), and I reserve the right to delete or alter it at any time. Before archiving anything, contact me for permission via e-mail or a comment. These works of fiction will be posted elsewhere as I see fit. Even when posted in communities or on other sites, they remain my property.

When looking at my userpics, feel free to take any you like unless the comments say, "Made for me by..." Those are gifts, and are for use by me and the maker. If you do take any, please credit the maker (who is always credited in my keywords and comments). The makers put a lot of time and effort into their work, and it's only fair to acknowledge that.
