Title: Sermons
Fandom: M*A*S*H
Pairing, etc: Mulcahy-centric
Prompt: 008. Weeks
Word Count: 141
Rating: Everyone
Disclaimer: Not mine. Don't sue.
Author's Notes: Spoilers for “A Holy Mess” and “Dear Peggy”
Father Mulcahy marked his weeks in sermons. Almost no one attended, save Radar and the majors and, later, Colonel Potter. A few wounded, perhaps, would show up, or at least say Confession. Despite that, every week, he labored over his Bible and his papers, searching for a new lesson for the week’s Mass. One week was memorable for the irony of being drunk while sermonizing, another for the AWOL soldier who sought sanctuary in the mess tent.
Those Sundays were also marked and memorable simply because they were the only time Mulcahy felt he truly had a purpose in the camp, rather than acting as just another pair of hands. Once a week, he formally offered his services—though he was always available—and a prayer everyone could join in. He remembered every week in Korea, if only for its Sunday.
