Ed rolled over and swatted at the buzzing alarm clock with a groan. His head pounded, and he couldn’t stand the thought of getting up. A cold foot connected with his kneecap, and he kicked back.

“Coffee,” his lover demanded.

“Not so loud,” Ed groaned. “You make it.”

“Your turn,” the other man replied, pulling the blankets over his head.

Ed thought—or tried to; the throbbing was making it difficult—and realized he was right. He also realized how much he hated hangovers, and how much it sucked to wake up with one, especially when your lover is a grumpy lawyer with an even worse hangover. He staggered to the kitchen, thankful that the only coffee left was pre-ground Folgers, and dumped what looked like a reasonable amount into the filter. After adding water, he hit the power button, then rummaged for the bottle of aspirin in one of the kitchen cabinets. Once he dry-swallowed two, he reached for mugs, waiting for the coffeepot to finish. By the time the aspirin took the edge off his headache, the coffeepot had finished its evil—and horribly loud, to Ed’s hypersensitive ears—last few hisses and sputters. He downed half a mug, black, grimacing at the bitter strength, before taking the other back to Jack, who was still hiding from the early morning light.

“Coffee.”

Jack tunneled out from under the down comforter, squinting against the assaulting brightness streaming through the window. “Black?”

“Yeah.”

Jack grabbed the mug and sucked it down greedily. Ed left him to it—Jack was a pain in the ass until his first dose of caffeine kicked in—and turned on the shower. The hot water helped relax out the buildup of lactic acid in his muscles, and the steam lessened his headache. By the time he heard Jack in the kitchen and shut off the water, he felt far better. As he shaved, the noise lessened to the clink of silverware against a plate.

Jack greeted Ed with a smile and more coffee, then passed him a plate of eggs and toast. As he stood at the counter and ate, Jack brushed against him constantly, getting more coffee or something else to eat. He’s like a cat, demanding attention, Ed thought as he wrapped an arm around Jack’s waist.

Jack noticed his slight smile. “What?”

“Nothing.”

“Ed…”

“Jack…” Ed mimicked his plaintive tone, and got a chuckle.

“What made you smile?”

“Thinkin’ about you.”

“Oh, really.”

“Yeah, you’re like a cat.”

“How’s that?”

“Feed you and pet you and you think you run everything.”

Jack pulled away and gave Ed a look of mock surprise. “You mean I don’t?”

Ed raised his eyebrows at Jack, and, smirking, pulled Jack closer, sliding his hands lower on Jack until he cupped his ass. They kissed, Jack’s stubble scratching against Ed’s clean shaven face, and Jack panted when they broke apart. “No,” Ed said decisively, “I don’t think you do.”

Jack gave Ed a wicked look. “We’ll just have to find out tonight.”

Nummy, funny, and entirely true to the characters :-). Loved it. Second hand up with request to link here, please.

Thanks for another read, and mostly for a glimpse at what someone else can do with this pairing. Makes me a very happy camper to read other peoples' fics with Jack and Ed, especially grumpy Jack and grumpier Ed :-). Like I said, Nummy.
